Eric Peterson opened the scoring off a feed from Jeff Fleshner, but Kevin Konfara answered with three straight goals to give the Chargers early control. Anthony Theuer, subbing in from the Knights, stopped the run for the Thunderbirds, and Peterson struck again late in the period to keep things even after one.

Konfara stayed hot in the second, adding two more while setting up Anthony Nowak, but Fleshner responded and Peterson completed his hat trick to keep the Thunderbirds right there in a tight, back-and-forth game heading into the third.

The final frame was a sprint. Konfara added four more, including a late goal assisted by Brent Severance, but the Thunderbirds answered every surge behind Peterson, Fleshner, and Theuer. Two late Thunderbirds goals sealed the 13–10 win in a high-scoring battle.
